Adventures in Addis

In August 2006 I began my adventure to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Africa. I was offered a position as the Director of Band and Choir for 5-12th grade students at the International Community School of Addis Ababa. Thought it might be a good idea to record my experiences here. I would not have done this journal without a tremendously great friend that I love dearly offering me the idea. Thanks Sadina. I hope you enjoy the journal. -Chris

I am a professional percussionist and music educator. I started my performance career in 2000 and my education career in 2002. I am a pretty laid back guy. I work too much. Sometimes I get carried away with how much time I spend at work. But, I do enjoy myself every chance I get.

Getting Ready!!!

This is my first entry of, hopefully, many. I am down to a week and a half until I take on my new adventure in Addis Ababa. It seems as if I should be freaking out since I only have a short amount of time left in the states. I am excited, yet solemn about this situation. It has been tough saying my goodbye to my friends, family, collegues and old students. It is nice to see as many people as I can before I go though. This weekend my family is throwing me a little get together. My sister is flying in from Samamish, WA!! That rocks!!!

In the meantime I am still staying busy and playing. Tonight I have my final concert in the US for a while. The Hillsdale Wind Symphony is having their summer concert in Stocks Park in Hillsdale at 7:30pm. I'm looking forward to it. This group has really left a positive mark in my life...from the friends I have made to the excellence in music performance. Tonight's concert will have much emotion from me...both sad and undeniably fun. I'm looking forward to the great musical experience we will give the community of Hillsdale County.
